More Renovation!!!!!

It seems like it never ends here.......we are renovating again!!! When Peter gets an idea in his head you cant stop him!! So we are adding two seperate bedrooms in the attic of the side building of the house, turning the bottom floor into an entertainment/ classroom and revamping the bathroom!! That way we can house those that come with horses for weekend workshops/clinics and rider tourism.......

Right now Peter is busy putting the stairs in...what a job!! I 'll get pictures up and posted as soon as I can......

Success in Kreuth!!

We have been home for a week and we are extremley happy with the results in Kreuth.

Absolutleyblue was 4th in the Celebration Longe Line, Competion was tough and she looked great and showed fantastic. She also placed in the top 5 under all 4 judges with one win in the 2 yr old halter class. Congratulations goes out to Absolutleyzippin and Sarah de Weerd. They won the NSBA longe line !!! Absolutleyzippin was bred and raised by Dampier Quarter Horses, we sold her to her current owner Liesbeth Doelman.

We also had a great time promoting the stallions Absolute Option and Chocolua. They raffled off a breeding from each stallion after the Celebration pleasure class. Kieran had the honors of drawing the raffle ticket and handing out the ribbons and prizes to the winning riders......All in all it was a great show for us.....

Our next big show is Aken. Absolultleyblue will go in the NSBA Longe Line and Invested in Fine Art will go in the green trail. We will also be promoting the stallions again so stop by our stalls we are setting up a Mojito bar!!! Cheers!!

Things are in full swing here. I am so excited about showing my 2 yr old Absolute Option in the NSBA and Pleasure Celebration longe line next week in Kreuth Germany. She was our first Absolute Option foal and from day one I knew she was special. She is all grown up and going to her first big show. Honestly,I have never had a horse here in Europe that was as easy to train as she has been. If there ever was a "Yes mam" horse, she is it.......She is always stepping up to the plate and saying "yes mam" whatever you ask her.....What a true pleasure horse!! Of course home is always different than "away from home" so Im curious to see how she will behave in the show enviroment. ...........One of my favorite horse quotes "Disposition is EVERYTHING in a horse".....and that is ohhhh so true!!

Well if you havent been following our weather............its really cold........I mean really cold.....so cold that the ponds are frozen and for those that can ( so not me ) you are able to ice skate on them!! The 3 of us went to one of the ponds with a slee and here is the video..........Peter was a bit to enthoused.........

It started raining/snowing again today.....you know the kind of snow that doesnt stick its just terribly cold and gets everything wet...........I hate this weather....Each year I try to find some sort of positive side to the winter but I still havent found it. Everyone says "this weather kills the bugs so in the summer its bearable"......Well folks, I still give out hundreds of euros each year for bug control and It hasnt gotton any better. Give me a margarita, and Dad, break out the Jimmy Buffet music. I would much rather spend my days in Florida where I dont have to worry about snow, rain, frozen water buckets, driving in the snow, riding in the cold so long that your feet hurt when you dismount, putting tons of blankets on shaven horses etc etc.............I wonder if I could convince Peter to spend the winter in Florida like all the rich riders and trainers do. Yeah right!! How do they do that , by the way??? I must be training the wrong kind of horses because I will NEVER earn enough to "winter" in Florida.........Oh well............ Well for now untill I win the big lotto or sell a horse for 8 figures I'll have to stick out the winters in Belgium............God help me......................

Lance my 3 yr old trail prospect for 2009 is coming along great. He has a lot of talent but is still young and immature. He doesnt give me any problems and he is a joy to work around!! Plans are to take him to Kreuth for several shows, Belgium and perhaps the Netherlands as well. I'll just ride him around and see how far I can get with him. A 3 yr old in the trail can be kinda of tricky, you dont want to scare them but at the same time they need to get broke. A lot of times I'll just go off pattern to make it eaiser for them so they gain confidence. We will see how it goes.........

Baily, Lances half brother ( both are by Artful Investment ) is growing, growing, and growing some more!! What a hunt seat prospect!! I hope to have him broke and ready to show next year in Aken.

MUIS, muisje, mouse,

Well she finally arrived, "Muis" our 8 week old, Old English Mastiff and she is just gorgeous!! For my family and friends in the states, "Muis" is dutch for mouse and since she will mature to over 100 pounds I thought that was a funny name. She loves to sleep and snor and she is already best friends with Kieran. He has made it very clear to everyone that she is "his" dog.......... Picking her up in Zeeland was a real madhatter ride. They had not predicted snow so we left the truck at home and drove the small car. Well after a "gezellig" afternoon with Muis's breeders we got in the car for our two hour trip home. It started snowing really bad and our two trip turned into a 6 hour nightmare!! But Peter got all 4 of us home very safely and we vowed NEVER to take the small car on trips in the winter!!

Better than a day at the spa

I had one of those days.........you know the kind where nothing goes right, my two year old decided that lope on the drive lines meant run as fast as you can in the other direction, my 3 yr old decided that loping over poles wasnt in his repertoie and my weanling decided that catching her was a HUGE game..grrrrrrr......I have reached the age where I take all this "bulls..." in stride but sometimes it can overflow......So I have found the best remedy, better than a day at the spa.... riding one of my old broodmares......ok, everybody's saying what?? You ride a 16 yr old stiff old lady?? YES and I LOVE IT!!! No saddle, no bridle just a halter.....no worries about collection, topline, rythem, hip control, blah blah blah just plain ole sitting on her big fat back and loping her around the fields. I feel just like a kid again....where the only worry I had about my horses was reaching the beach before high tide so we could "race". I used to never ride with a saddle, that was only for the "real" lessons we had with our trainer and when we had to go to the shows. Oh how life changes..........Jet or in her younger days known as "Ms. Blue Diamond Jet" is my spa and secretly I think she likes it to!!

Wish I could lay in the hay all day long!!

So our two foals this year by Absolute Option, Casper and Lucy, have adjusted to "life without mama" just fine..... They are two very correct "ladies" and prefer to be treated as such...........check out Caspers hooves resting on Lucy...classic.........

Well, I thought I should enter the modern world of comunication and start a "BLOG". Doesnt anybody just call each other anymore, or better yet write a REAL letter.....hmmmm.......I guess not so onward with technology.

This blog is meant to chronicale our lives, thoughts, hopes and dreams here at Dampier Quarter Horses. Its meant for anyone, and everyone to answer and read.
